Former UTC golfer Stephan Jaeger, who just completed his final season at the NCAA Championships earlier this month, is tied for 15th after shooting a 1-under-par 70 at the British Amateur played at Royal Troon, a British Open venue, and Glasgow-Gailes Links.
Chattanooga has a large presence in the field. Other Mocs playing and their first-round scores and current place: Chris Robb 72 (t-67), Liam Johnston 75 (t-179) and Benni Weilguni 76 (t-200). There are 288 in the field.
Jaeger, Johnston and Weilguni will play Glasgow-Gailes on Tuesday, while Robb moves to Royal Troon. There is one more round of stroke play, and the top 64 players and ties move on to match play at Royal Troon.
Jaeger has been on a roll the last couple of months. He won the SoCon championship by 11 shots and then won the NCAA Bowling Green Regional at 13 under par, four shots ahead of runnerup Pedro Figueiredo of UCLA. Jaeger closed out his career by leading the Mocs in the NCAA Championships with a 54-hole score of 219. His final-round 70 tied a school record for the NCAA finals.
