Leaders with Edmunds.com released a list of best new and used cars for teens, who may be taking to the road more during the summertime.
Edmunds.com, which is an online resource for automotive information, recommends midsize sedans for young drivers.
“Midsize sedans offer teen drivers the best combination of safety, reliability and affordability,” Carroll Lachnit, consumer advice editor at Edmunds.com, said in a prepared statement. “Small cars might be more affordable, but they don’t offer as much protection in a collision as larger vehicles."
She also said that some people think SUVs are the best for teens because they would likely hold up better in an accident, but Lachnit said they can also be difficult to maneuver and could be intimidating for first-time drivers.
"Some experts think new SUVs with stability control are great choices for teen drivers, but there is far less risk of a rollover in a sedan," she also said.
