After an impressive three-game showing last weekend at the Nike Global Challenge in Virginia and Washington, D.C., Tennessee basketball player Derek Reese was chosen to the event’s International All-Tournament Team.

Reese was the tournament’s second-leading scorer, averaging 21.0 points per game for the Puerto Rican U19 Team.

The Nike Global Challenge featured eight teams – three teams from the United States along with squads from Puerto Rico, China, Canada, Lithuania and Brazil.

There were two separate All-Tournament teams. One squad was made up of the standouts from the three American teams, while Reese landed on the “International” All-Tournament Team.

“I thought Derek played hard and that was good to see,” Tennessee coach Cuonzo Martin said. “He played well on both ends of the floor and really competed against some strong competition. His rebounding definitely stood out. It was a solid overall effort on his part.”

The freshman forward from Orlando, Fla., also averaged 12.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 32.0 minutes per game while shooting .458 from the field, .400 from 3-point range and .917 from the free-throw line.
