ROME — About the only resistance Tennessee’s basketball team encountered in the first game of its tour of Italy on Wednesday night was from their team bus.
The vehicle broke down on the way to the arena, but the Vols showed no ill effects from the delay, hammering All-Star Italy, 83-32 at the Arena Altero Felici.
Sophomore forward Jarnell Stokes led the Vols with 15 points and also grabbed seven rebounds. Junior point guard Trae Golden put together a solid game as well, scoring 13 points and handing out four assists. He didn’t commit a turnover and made 2 of 3 3-pointers.
Sophomore guard Josh Richardson was also in double figures with 12 points, and three of the Vols’ newcomers figured prominently in the outcome. Junior D’Montre Edwards, a junior college transfer, led Tennessee with eight rebounds, six on the offensive end. Redshirt freshman Quinton Chievous scored eight points, and freshman Armani Moore contributed six points, four rebounds and two assists.
The Vols get Thursday off and will play again on Friday, when they travel to the small town of Montecatini to play Montenegro Selezione.
