A ruling by a Las Vegas judge last week found the now-defunct, Franklin-based Tea Party Nation liable for $748,000 in unpaid hotel fees and interest.

According to a Tennessean report, the group reserved 1,637 room nights at the Venetian Casino Hotel for a conference scheduled for July 2010. It was cancelled weeks before it was to take place, and the rooms were never paid for.

Organizers for the conference, which would have featured speakers Laura Ingraham, Lou Dobbs and former GOP Senate candidate Sharron Angle, said it had been cancelled because economic circumstances discouraged ticket sales. To attend the weekend-long event, participants would have paid $399, or a daily rate of $125.

The ruling has caught the attention of national media outlets this week, such as The Huffington Post and Bloomberg
