Matt Magill threw seven shutout innings and racked up 11 strikeouts to lead the Chattanooga Lookouts to a 4-1 win over the Jacksonville Suns in Tuesday night action at AT&T Field.

Magill and his counterpart, Matthew Neil (2-7), pitched brilliantly for six straight innings. Neither team scored a run until the bottom of the seventh, when the Lookouts broke through. Luis Nunez led off the inning with a double off the left-field wall. Jake Lemmerman then laid down a sacrifice bunt, but first baseman Ben Lasater decided to go to third on the play and made an errant throw in the process. That resulted in Nunez scoring and the Lookouts taking a 1-0 lead.

Chattanooga added three insurance runs in eighth inning. J.T. Wise began the rally with a double and advanced to third on a Blake Smith single. With runners on the corners, Brahiam Maldonado—the Southern League player of the week—singled to drive home Wise. Nunez collected his second double of the game to drive home Smith. Lemmerman hit a sacrifice fly to center to plate Maldonado, giving the Lookouts a 4-0 lead.

Kyle Skipworth had an RBI single in the top of the ninth to account for the lone Suns’ run. Chris Withrow recorded the final four Jacksonville outs to earn his second save of the season.

Overall, Magill (10-6) yielded just two hits and one walk over his seven shutout innings.
