The Chattanooga women’s soccer team fell to 1-2 on the season following its 1-0 loss to visiting Alabama State on Sunday afternoon at Finley Stadium.
The Lady Mocs, who outshot their opponents for the third time this season, fired six first-half shots-on-goal, but it was the Lady Hornets who scored the only goal of the match in the 61st minute.
“We are building great attacks,” head coach J.D. Kyzer said. “You can see that by the number of corner kicks and time of possession, but we haven’t put it in yet. That is something we have to work on.”
UTC nearly scored the equalizer in the 89th minute when freshman Loryn Queen received a pass in the left side of the box from senior Kelsey Swann. Queen crossed to freshman Clare Latham, who had a clean shot on goal, but Alabama State keeper Kylee Hathaway corralled the ball to preserve her team’s lead.
“We controlled the game,” Kyzer said. “We knocked it around. We possessed well and we defended well. There was one play where it hit off legs and drops in their lap. We hope something like that happens to us one day. Right now it is not.”
The Lady Mocs return to action Friday with an 8 p.m. contest at Lipscomb, before playing at Austin Peay on Sunday at 3 p.m.
