Roadway improvements set to begin at Hamilton Place

New roundabout planned near Gunbarrel Road

In an effort to improve traffic flow, mall officials announced that work will begin next week to construct a new roundabout near the Gunbarrel Road entrance.

The intersection will remain open throughout the construction, and the project is expected to be completed in October. The mall plans to employ off-duty police officers to direct traffic during peak times. Once complete, the roundabout will function much more efficiently than the current three-way stop and alleviate backups that can occur during peak times, officials said.

“The new roundabout will facilitate a smoother flow of traffic into and around the mall,” said Dan Wolfe, general manager for Hamilton Place. “We’ve worked closely with the city of Chattanooga’s traffic and engineering department to improve ingress and egress in this area.”

Large signs will be posted throughout the area to direct traffic while work is in progress. Although the Gunbarrel entrance will remain open, shoppers are reminded that the following roads can be used to avoid the area:

—Via Gunbarrel Road: Take either Landress Drive or Commons Boulevard

—Via Shallowford Road: Take Hamilton Place Boulevard

—Via East Brainerd Road: Take North Concord Road

All mall entrances/exits from I-75 will be unaffected.

To stay up-to-date as work progresses, the mall will post daily updates via Facebook, Twitter and on their website at HamiltonPlace.com
