Chattanooga was named best outdoor city today in Blue Ridge Outdoors magazine’s Facebook poll.
The Scenic City was named as a finalist for the moniker in August.
The poll collected 85,000 votes from magazine readers located throughout the Blue Ridge Mountain region of the U.S.
The designation comes with a full feature article in the magazine’s November issue and a profile video (below).
Representatives from the Parks and Recreation Department’s Outdoor Chattanooga division, The Crash Pad and Roots Rated.com are quoted in the article and video, which focus on the area’s accessible outdoor amenities and relaxed, urban lifestyle.
In the past year, Chattanooga has been featured by countless publications.
In January, The New York Times listed Chattanooga as one of the top 45 places to go in 2012.
The Scenic City landed at No. 25 on the list, which also includes locations such as Antarctica, Wales, Morocco, Finland, London and Tokyo.
In May, CNBC featured Chattanooga in a story about manufacturing resurgence.
Former nonprofit CreateHere is the latest local organization to garner national publicity when FastCompany.com featured the organization in an article called “How Chattanoogans Partied Their Way to a Cleaner, Safer, Richer City.”
Blue Ridge Outdoors magazine is a free publication that targets outdoor enthusiasts in communities along the Appalachian Mountain chain, from Washington D.C., to Atlanta. The magazine publishes online and through a monthly print distribution of 110,000.
