Hamilton Place officials will use mounted horse patrols during the winter holiday season to provide visibility for both security officers and shoppers.
The patrols, staffed by Ralph and Gaye Saunders, ERMC employees who have provided patrols for the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, are trained to interact with crowds and maintain their composure in the event of surprise movement or noise.
Being on horseback is expected to enable the officers to see at a longer distance, offering a greater deterrent to crime over the holidays.
“Response to the mounted patrols from shoppers has been phenomenal,” Jeff Brewer, vice president of ERMC, a facilities management company, said. “Children as well as adults have come up to the security officers to check out the horses. Patrols will continue through the end of the year.”
