Howard held on to the top spot, while a pair of District 5-AAA teams, Cleveland and Ooltewah, moved up to Nos. 2 and 4, respectively.
- 1. Howard (6-0)
The Hustlin’ Tigers have established themselves as the team to beat in District 6-AA. They’ve already beaten No. 5 Tyner (64-47) and No. 3 Brainerd (54-51), and Howard rolled to a 27-point rout over East Ridge on Tuesday evening.
- 2. Cleveland (6-0)
The Blue Raiders haven’t been beaten yet this this season, and they haven’t even been tested since their 63-61 win at Bradley Central on Nov. 30. That’ll change Friday evening when Cleveland hosts No. 4 Ooltewah.
- 3. Brainerd (5-4)
The Panthers’ record isn’t flashy, but their four losses this season have been to top-notch competition, including No. 1 Howard (6-0), Science Hill (14-1) and Austin-East (7-2.) Brainerd’s tough schedule continues Friday when it hosts No. 5 Tyner.
- 4. Ooltewah (6-1)
Since their season-opening loss to East Ridge, the Owls have outscored opponents by an average of 15 points. Tuesday’s come-from-behind victory over District 5-AAA Bradley Central was much closer, but Ooltewah still captured its sixth straight victory.
- 5. Tyner (5-3)
Tyner’s loss to No. 1 Howard snapped a four-game winning streak, but the Rams rebounded with a lopsided win over No. 8 Central on Tuesday evening. Tyner is 5-0 on the season when it holds its opponents to under 61 points, and 0-3 when it has allowed 62 or more.
- 6. McCallie (3-3)
The Blue Tornado finally made it to .500 with Tuesday’s 58-48 win over Hamilton Heights Christian. McCallie, which handed No. 9 Notre Dame its first loss last week, have won two straight and will travel to North Cobb (Ga.) on Saturday.
- 7. Central (4-3)
The Pounders had their three-game winning streak snapped with Tuesday’s 60-48 loss to Tyner – its first double-digit defeat of the season – but not before Central got a little revenge against Notre Dame. The Irish edged the Pounders 54-52 in their season opener, but Central captured a 74-67 over ND on Tuesday.
- 8. Baylor (2-1)
The season is just starting to heat up for the Red Raiders, who suffered their first loss of the season at Walker Valley on Tuesday. Baylor, which has a pair of wins over middle Tennessee schools Lancaster Christian Academy and Franklin Road Academy on the season, fell to the Mustangs 51-46.
- 9. Notre Dame (5-3)
The Fighting Irish have cooled off since its impressive start under first-year head coach J.P. Nerbun. Notre Dame, which started the season 5-0, suffered three straight losses to Bledsoe County, McCallie and Central. The Irish got back on track Tuesday with a win over Red Bank, and it hosts Knoxville Catholic on Saturday.
