The Chattanooga wrestling team suffered a 21-17 dual to Cleveland State University on Sunday. The Mocs won five matches, including bonus points in two wins, but a forfeit and a pin dropped UTC’s overall record to 4-6 on the season.
The dual started at 174, which was a rematch from the Southern Scuffle between Mocs junior Jake Young and the Vikings’ Xavier Dye. Young won the first bout in overtime, but lost 7-5 on Sunday. Dye scored two takedowns in the first period, and another in the third, for the win.
Senior Robert Prigmore got the Mocs on the board with a 4-1 win over Corbin Bone at 184. Senior Niko Brown put UTC ahead with his 13-3 major decision over Nick Anthony at 197. Brown came into the match ranked No. 18 in the nation and scored his team-high 20th win of the year.
Sophomore Kevin Malone put gave Chattanooga a 10-3 advantage following his 6-1 decision over Amon Willis at heavyweight. UTC looked to be in position to break things open with sophomore Nick Soto – 15th in the nation – taking the mat at 125, but he was upset by Ben Willeford in a 5-4 loss.
