Because of the cold temperatures during the day that are dipping below freezing at night, the Salvation Army has recently received hundreds of phone calls from people seeking supplemental heat sources.

The Salvation Army is asking the community to donate new space heaters, coats and blankets to help those in need during these cold days.

“Our goal is to keep our neighbors safe and warm in their homes,” Maj. Algerome Newsome said in a prepared statement. “Everyone who shares the warmth through their gifts is showing their deep concern for those in danger of the frigid, life-threatening weather.”

Donations can be made at the Salvation Army at 822 McCallie Ave., or monetary donations can be made onlineor by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY.
