The Chattanooga men’s tennis team suffered a 4-3 loss to Austin Peay in its match at Baylor School on Friday afternoon. The match took nearly four hours before the Governors captured the closely-contested bout. The Mocs fell to 4-2 on the season with the loss, which snapped the team’s four-match winning streak.
UTC jumped out in front in doubles, taking an early lead in all three matches. Seniors Jackson Tresnan and Manuel Barreotavena were first off the court with an 8-2 win at No. 2, improving to 4-0 as a pair this spring.
The Governors battled back, though, taking the next two doubles matches and a 1-0 lead heading into singles action. The doubles point is crucial, because without it, a team must win four of six singles matches to snag a victory. Chattanooga is 4-0 when winning the doubles point.
APSU ran out to a quick 3-0 lead with singles wins at No. 3 and No. 4. Barreotavena finally got the Mocs on the board with his three-set (6-4, 5-7, 6-4) win over Jasmin Ademovic at No. 2.
The Governors clinched the win when Sean Bailey scored a (7-6, 64) win over Roberto Vieira at No. 1. Tresnan remained unbeaten at 4-0 with his win at No. 6, while sophomore Pavels Grigorjevs also won at No. 5.
