The Chattanooga wrestling team remained unbeaten in Southern Conference action this season with its 37-7 win over Davidson on Sunday at Maclellan Gym. The Mocs improved to 8-6 overall — 4-0 in SoCon matches — while Davidson dropped to 6-10 and 1-4 in league duals.
UTC took a 6-0 advantage before the match had even started with Davidson forfeiting at 125. Davidson’s Anthony Elias kicked off the action with an impressive major decision win over Mocs freshman Marvin Lopez. That trimmed the Wildcats’ deficit to 6-4, but that was as close as they’d get.
Senior Dean Pavlou followed with a pin at 141, and junior Alex Hudson scored a major decision win at 149. Sophomore Tray Stavrum put the Mocs ahead 19-4 by shutting out Nathaniel Powers 6-0 at 157.
Freshman Parker Smith came off the bench at 165 for his first action in a collegiate dual on Sunday. Listed at 157, Smith moved up to 165 and was leading 7-6 late in his match with Christopher Cirenza, but a takedown and two back points before the final horn gave Cirenza a 10-8 decision.
That was all the Wildcats could manage, though, as Chattanooga improved to 23-0 all-time against Davidson.
Freshman John Lampe (174), senior Robert Prigmore (184) and sophomore Kevin Malone (heavyweight) all won matches as well, and Davidson forfeited at 197.
