Good morning, and welcome to the day that Manchester, Tenn., becomes the center of American pop culture.
The folks behind Bonnaroo, the annual four-day throwdown that brings acts big and small to a 700-acre field, will announce the festival’s 2013 lineup.
And who is serving as the master of ceremonies? Well, “Weird Al” Yankovic, of course, flowing curls, accordion and all.
At noon EST, Yankovic will take to the Bonnaroo YouTube channel, Bonnaroo365, for a live broadcast. The first hour is scheduled to include a smattering of classic concert moments from the festival’s 10-year history, such as performances by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, The White Stripes, Phish, Bon Iver, Black Start and Bruce Springsteen.
Then, at 1 p.m., the beat drops. Yankovic will turn the broadcast into full BLAM—Bonnaroo Lineup Announcement Megathon—mode.
Thus far, the rumored acts have ranged from Postal Service and Paul McCartney to Wu-Tang Clan and ASAP Rocky. Many publications have gone to great lengths to gather evidence and perfect their preannouncement prediction lists.
At 2 p.m., BLAM switches over to a streaming concert experience, a one-time broadcast of a full Bonnaroo performance.
Yankovic will momentarily share hosting duties with festival favorite, American rocker Portugal. The Man.
And don’t worry: Yankovic has been hard at work, combing his collection for the ultimate, sublimely tacky, Hawaiian print-patterned, button-down shirt to properly commemorate this, the 11th year of Bonnaroo.
