SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. — Jordan Britt and Emily McLennan led the Chattanooga women’s golf team to a third-place finish this week at the Cardinal Cup. Britt finished ninth at plus four (220), while McLennan tied for 10th at plus six (222).
McLennan had the low round Tuesday. Her one-over par 73 in windy conditions moved her 10 spots up the leader board after starting the day tied for 20th.
“Emily was solid today especially considering how little practice she’s had because of an ankle injury,” UTC head coach Colette Murray said. “I’m happy with the way she and Jordan played earning their top 10s.”
Tuesday’s final round saw the Mocs turn in 307 for a 901 total. It’s the second straight year the squad has finished the event ranked third.
“It’s not the start I was hoping for, but Louisville played really, really well across the board,” Murray added. “We struggled at our four and five positions. When a team plays like Louisville did, you have to be at the top of your game.
“The good news is we get to get right back out there this Friday in Knoxville and get back at it.”
Agathe Sauzon ended up 25th for Chattanooga, shooting 11-over par 227, while Isabella Loza finished with a 232 total.
The hosting Cardinals ran away with the event. Their five-under par 859 topped runner-up Kansas (881) by 22. Louisville’s Laura Restrepo was the wire-to-wire winner at four-under 212. She won by a single shot over teammate Emily Haas and KU’s Yupaporn Kawinpakorn.
Chattanooga returns to action this weekend at the Mercedes-Benz Championship. This year’s 54-hole event is at the Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville.
