In a little more than a year, there will be a new, seven-story Holiday Inn & Suites at the corner of Fifth and Chestnut streets downtown.
The $19 million investment will bring about 100 temporary construction jobs and between 70 and 80 permanent jobs.
At a Monday morning groundbreaking, officials touted the local efforts that are making this project possible.
Architect: River Street Architecture
Lender: Cornerstone Community Bank
Open date: Summer 2015
The architects, lenders and developers are all Chattanooga-based, officials said.
“Since preschool, I’ve been here in Chattanooga; this is what I consider my home,” project Managing Director Roshan Amin, who is with development agency Dynamic Group, said. “Creating 80 jobs means 80 families that are much more successful in this community.”
The full-service, 139-room hotel will have a full restaurant and bar, meeting space and parking,Bob Bhagat, managing partner, said.
The first level will be the lobby, meeting space, restaurant and some parking. Levels two and three will be parking only, and the fourth through seventh floors are rooms, he said.
Leaders are hoping to recruit a local eatery to the restaurant space, which will face Fifth and Broad and will have a patio.
“Weare looking for restaurateurswho are experienced in this community and are looking to expand,”Amin said.
During the next six months, officials are also looking to hire permanent hotel staff.
Anyone interested in that opportunity or the restaurant space can email the developers.
The new hotel is near two other hotels, butAmin said the demand for rooms is there.
“The [Convention and] Visitors Bureau and Chamber of Commerce are bringing so much business and tourism to Chattanooga-there is demand for at least 140 more rooms,” he said.
