Last weekend, it was antique motorcycles. This weekend, it’s classic vehicles of all kinds.
Coker Tire and Honest Charley Speed Shop will host the Chattanooga Cruise In Saturday, Sept. 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Coker Tire is located at 1317 Chestnut St., and Honest Charley Speed Shop is just next door at 1309 Chestnut.
The event, which started in September 2011, was begun to encourage car and truck enthusiasts to gather in the Scenic City. The “laid-back car show” creates an atmosphere where spectators can come and go as they please for the duration of the show. Organizers expect participants from Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, Kentucky and Ohio.
The event is free, both for spectators and for entering an automobile.
The cars on display will be parked on the streets surrounding Coker Tire and Honest Charley Speed Shop, which will both host an open house in conjunction with the event. Additionally, Corky Coker’s museum will be included in the tours.
Coker, owner of Coker Tire, is an avid car collector and a well-known character in the automotive aftermarket.
Most of the streets surrounding the businesses will be blocked off to provide adequate space for the participants. The entrance will be at the intersection of Main and Chestnut streets.
Officials said that several car clubs and other car-related businesses had been invited to the event, so they expect a crowd.
The most recent (April 2014) Chattanooga Cruise In featured more than 1,000 vehicles and approximately 10,000 people. The event will happen rain or shine.
T-shirts are available for $10, and local vendors will be on-site selling food.
