The freezing temperatures headed our way mean the Salvation Army needs heaters, gloves, hats, hand warmers and monetary donations to serve the area's underprivileged population.
Officials said in a news release this afternoon that the organization has received numerous phone calls from people needing assistance with utility bills and supplemental heat to battle the cold.
New space heaters are needed for low-income residents, and gloves, hand warmers, hats, etc., are needed for distribution to the homeless population. Monetary donations are always accepted.
Officials said no blankets are needed at this time.
"Our goal is to keep our neighbors safe and warm in their homes," Maj. Algerome Newsome said in a prepared statement. "Everyone who shares the warmth through their gifts is showing their deep concern for those in danger of the frigid, life-threatening weather."
Donations can be made online or at 822 McCallie Ave.
