The Hamilton County Commission agreed to send $200,000 in discretionary money back to the county’s reserve fund after an unsuccessful effort to transfer the money to an area nonprofit group.

Commissioners Joe Graham and Marty Haynes received enough votes to each return $100,000 from their discretionary spending accounts. Both commissioners opposed using “rainy day” funds for nonemergency purposes.

Commissioners Warren Mackey, Sabrena Smedley, Randy Fairbanks and Chester Bankston fell one vote shy in an effort to give the money to the Orange Grove Center, located in Mackey’s district.
