Ten projects have been awarded $3,000 each in the latest Causeway Challenge.

Community members were asked to answer the question, "How can more opportunities to play make Chattanooga a stronger city?" and submit project ideas that fit the theme.

Projects include converting a First Street elevator into a giant slide, constructing a playground at a medical facility and inviting underserved youth to enjoy an evening of camping.

A panel of six judges reviewed the applications and made funding recommendations.

Each winner will also receive the support of Causeway staff and a mentor from Causeway's adviser network. All projects must be completed between January and April.

"The [Causeway Challenge] has introduced Causeway to so many passionate local people who have great ideas and are willing to lead projects for positive change in our city," Abby Garrison, executive director, said. "We are excited about the potential of not only the 10 winning projects, but of the entire pool of applicants whom we hope to engage even further."
