National Cornbread Cook-Off organizers are accepting recipe entries for this year’s best original main dish cornbread, which is the highlight of the annual National Cornbread Festival in South Pittsburg.
Applications will be accepted through Jan. 31. Click here for official contest guidelines and information.
The top 10 entries will be selected to compete at the festival April 29, where the winner will receive $5,000, a stainless-steel gas range, and other gifts from Lodge Cast Iron and Martha White.
Recipes must include at least one package of Martha White cornbread mix and be prepared in seasoned cast-iron cookware from Lodge.
How do you win the contest? Many of the top contestants tend to think outside the box.
“Past cook-off contestants have stretched beyond Southern cuisine, preparing Caribbean-, Tex-Mex- and Mediterranean-style recipes,” said Linda Carman, a Martha White baking expert. “Cooks across the country continue to impress me with their creative twists on classic recipes and trendy dishes reinvented with cornbread.”
