Chattanooga’s Ironman events ranked in the top 10 across multiple categories in the inaugural Ironman Athletes Choice Awards.

“We are incredibly excited to receive these awards,” Chattanooga Convention and Visitors Bureau President Bob Doak said in a prepared statement. “They are a testament to the entire community and the thousands of hours of hard work spent to ensure these athletes and their families had the absolute best experiences in Chattanooga.”

Scores were based on athlete surveys from all the 2016 races-40 Ironman and 96 Ironman 70.3 events.

Ironman had 55,000 athletes respond to their survey. The five-point satisfaction scale encompassed questions including overall satisfaction, best venue, city experience, post-race celebration and more.

Little Debbie Ironman Chattanooga, presented by McKee Foods, received No. 6 in overall satisfaction, No. 4 in overall swim, No. 4 for best race venue, No. 7 for best host city and No. 2 for best post-race celebration.

The Sunbelt Ironman 70.3, also presented by McKee, tied for Nos. 3 and 4 for overall bike and overall run, respectively. It also ranked No. 1 for best race venue, No. 1 for best host city experience and No. 5 for being a race that an athlete would recommend to a friend.
