Little River Canyon National Preserve near Fort Payne, Alabama, will undergo a prescribed burn in the next few days.
The burn will take place between Saturday and Monday, but the exact timing will depend on weather and environmental conditions.
This project will focus on the southwest portion of the wildlife management areas in the Slant Rock Burn Complex.
During and after the burn, park roads 1, 2 and 4 will be closed.

Prescribed burns are intended to reduce the risk of wildfires in the area. Recent conditions have not been suitable for a controlled burn, as a southern wind is necessary to keep smoke off State Route 35.
The Natchez Trace Zone fire management team and park staff will lead the burn.
To find out about road closures, call the park office at 256-845-9605, extension 201.
