“Rent” at Tivoli Theatre
Broadway at the Tivoli continues this week with two performances of “Rent” tonight and Thursday night. A Tony Award winner for Best Musical, the show follows “a group of impoverished young artists struggling to survive and create a life in New York City’s East Village in the thriving days of Bohemian Alphabet City, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.” Tickets are still available for both shows. Fans can also participate in a long-standing ticketing tradition in which the first two orchestra rows will be sold by lottery an hour before the show. Amani ya Juu celebrates International Women’s Day
Today is International Women’s Day, celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women throughout the world. To celebrate, Amani ya Juu will host a gathering for all women at their 420 S. Willow St. location. Amani ya Juu, which means “peace from above,” is a sewing and reconciliation program for marginalized women in Africa. Tonight’s event will take place from 6:30 to 9:30 and allow local women to spend time with other women from around Chattanooga. Locally made tamales will be available for purchase at the event.
