The Cadek Conservatory of Music is moving from UTC to Girls Preparatory School.
Cadek Conservatory of Music will begin its partnership with GPS this summer. Cadek will continue to offer programs of musical instruction on strings, winds, brass, keyboard, percussion, harp, voice, Kindermusik and Suzuki.
“GPS’s commitment to the performing arts, in addition to its reputation for academic excellence, ensures a high-quality instructional program that will continue to enhance the musical landscape of Chattanooga,” GPS board chair and UTC School of Nursing Director Chris Smith said in a prepared statement.
The move is a partnership between UTC and GPS to expand access to the music lessons offered by Cadek, according to a news release.
“UTC values and promotes cultural programming in our community, and this partnership allows us to further that commitment,” UTC Chancellor Steven Angle said in a news release.
Work on Cadek Conservatory’s new home is already underway as GPS converts a historical structure on its campus for the new purpose. The conservatory will be located in a building that was designed and built by modernist architect Mario Bianculli for use as his residence. It will feature light-filled spaces and a unique design with views of the Tennessee River, according to the release.
“The alignment of Cadek with GPS will allow a broader range of families in the community to take advantage of Cadek’s services and for the Cadek legacy to continue and thrive in Chattanooga,” GPS Head Autumn Graves said.
On April 2, GPS will host a gathering for all current Cadek participants, community members and other constituents. In addition to introducing Cadek families to GPS and GPS families to Cadek, the event will include performances by a variety of students and artists.
Cadek will open its doors for lessons on the GPS campus July 1 for the second summer term. Summer registration will be handled by UTC. Registration for the fall term will open July 10 on GPS’ website.
