Heart Attack Shack, an eat-in or takeout restaurant that offers big burgers and large portions of fries, recently opened in East Ridge.

The Ringgold Road restaurant serves burgers, fries, nachos, and both bone-in and boneless wings. Prices range from $3 to $9 for most items.

“Our motto is ‘bigger portions for better prices,'” Heart Attack Shack general manager Justin Howarth said.

Burgers start at a quarter-pound and go up to 1 pound, and portions of fries range from medium to extra-large.

“It’s an opportunity for the community to escape from hard diets they are on and to go enjoy themselves a greasy hamburger,” Howarth said.

This is the first Heart Attack Shack, and the name comes from Howarth’s experience at another restaurant.

“The story behind the name is that customers would come in and order a ‘heart attack,'” Howarth said. “There was no item on the menu with that name, but it was in our system, and we still served it to any customer.”

The “heart attack” refers to an order of fries “smothered with shredded cheese, jalapeños, bacon and our signature heart attack sauce,” according to Heart Attack Shack’s menu.

Heart Attack Shack occupies a 1,500-square-foot space and employs eight people. The dining area can seat up to 16 people.

Howarth said that business has been great since he opened in January, and he thanked the community for their continued support.

“We are a family-friendly restaurant,” he said. “We invite everyone to come out and give us a shot.”

There are currently no plans to open a second restaurant, but Howarth hopes to eventually open a larger location closer to downtown. He said they are always interested in talking with potential investors.

“Our goal is to establish a long-term relationship with the community … and leave our footprint in Chattanooga,” he said.

Heart Attack Shack is located at 4345 Ringgold Road. It is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
