Hamilton County schools are closing two hours early Wednesday because of the threat of severe weather.
All afternoon and evening activities will also be canceled, including afternoon child care, officials said in an email.
“We do not want buses or students on the roads during this potential severe weather outbreak,” also according to the email. “Please note, since the timing of this system is uncertain, we may need to close schools earlier than anticipated.”
According to the National Weather Service, scattered and potentially strong thunderstorms are possible through the day and evening.
The main threats are damaging winds up to 70 miles per hour and large hail.
“The most severe activity will also be capable of producing an isolated tornado or two,” according to the NWS.
The greatest risk is during the midafternoon and evening.
