A new North Chattanooga eatery will provide drive-thru service during breakfast and lunch and a more formal atmosphere during dinner.
“I didn’t really want to be in just the coffee business because it’s a very tough business and the margins are low,” Sip Coffee + Kitchen owner John Wise said.
After having two tenants fall through, Wise developed a restaurant concept that will include breakfast, lunch and dinner at the 14 W. Kent St. location, which used to be a drive-thru bank.
Wise has owned the building for about 15 years and saw an opportunity to capitalize on the available drive-thru, which will be available for customers who want coffee or select housemade dishes during breakfast and lunch.
The drive-thru won’t be open during dinner.
“The drive-thru is going to be a limited menu,” Wise said, adding that his team is working on items such as sausage and cheese croissants for customers to take away.
Customers who want to order outside of the limited menu will likely be able to place their orders at the drive-thru and then park and have it brought out to them, he said. Those logistics are being worked out now, before the tentative opening date of June 1.
Wise added to the building in order to get enough seating to meet liquor law requirements.
In the evenings, the tables will be covered with cloths for a more formal feeling. And he has plans to have live music at night, he said.
“Because we’re a small operation, we are going to be flexible [with the menu],” Wise said. “We’re going to always have specials, and we will adjust our menu.”
Chef Nick Goeller, who previously worked at 212 Market Restaurant and Tupelo Honey Café, designed the menu, Wise said.
A sneak peek of the menu is available here.
Wise also said there’s plenty of nearby parking, including a garage next to the new restaurant.
