Ten law enforcement agencies performed a warrant roundup that led to 59 arrests this week, including two gang members and one sex offender.
Authorities served 131 warrants, 89 for felony charges and 42 for misdemeanors. Some people had more than one warrant, Sheriff Jim Hammond said at a Friday morning news conference.
“You may run, but you cannot hide permanently,” he said. “Most of the people we take into custody who’ve been on the run a long time will say every single day they were looking over their shoulder. So if you’re out there and you’ve got an active warrant, the best thing you can do is talk to your family, talk to an attorney and turn yourself in.”
Agencies involved in the roundup were the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms; Chattanooga Housing Authority Police Department; Chattanooga Police Department; Drug Enforcement Agency; East Ridge Police Department; Red Bank Police Department; Soddy-Daisy Police Department; Tennessee Bureau of Investigation; Tennessee Department of Corrections; and U.S. Marshalls.
