The Chattery and the Chattanooga chapter of the League of Women Voters are hosting a free workshop in hopes of improving voter engagement in the area.

Organizers cited Tennessee’s low ranking in voter turnout as part of the need for the upcoming event, during which UTC assistant political science professor Dr. Amanda Wintersieck will speak.

Wintersieck will present research-based information on voting and voter registration, according to a news release.

In addition to discussing voter registration issues, she said she plans to spend some time “talking about strategies for follow-through with voting. After all, registration means little if citizens don’t vote,” according to the release.

The event is scheduled for Aug. 10 at 6 p.m. on The 4th Floor of the downtown library, located at 1001 Broad St.

A brief training session on registering voters, led by officers of the local League of Women Voters chapter, will follow.
