After almost a year of training, local Irene Sewell will soon attempt to break a Guinness World Record: running a full marathon in high heels.
According to a release, Sewell needs to be faster than seven hours and 30 minutes in order to obtain the record. She has previously completed marathons in four hours and 45 minutes, although that was in standard athletic shoes.
“I’m really looking forward to experiencing the beautiful 7 Bridges course and obtaining the record,” she said.

Nooga.com spoke with Sewell last October as she began training. She explained to us why she wanted to break the record.
“You always need a few interesting facts about yourself when you meet new people,” she said. “So I just thought it would be really cool to say, ‘Hi, I’m Irene and I hold the Guinness World Record for fastest marathon in high heels.’”
