The co-founder of Rent the Runway, an online service that provides designer clothing and accessory rentals, will speak in Chattanooga.
Jennifer Hyman is also the CEO of the company, and she will give the keynote address at the Chattanooga Women’s Leadership Institute’s 13th annual Impact Leadership Dinner in February.
“Jennifer has built a thriving IT and logistics company within the online fashion sector and is a great example of female business leadership in the typically male-dominated tech and startup worlds,” CWLI Executive Director Holly Ashley said in a prepared statement.
In 2009, Hyman introduced Rent the Runway, a company that is introducing clothing rental as a utility in women’s everyday lives, to the $1.7 trillion fashion industry. In her role, she sets strategic priorities and leads the company in growing all areas of the business, including marketing, technology, product, logistics and analytics.
Hyman raised more than $190 million in venture capital, growing the business to more than six million members, 1,100 employees—which are more than 60 percent women and 70 percent minorities—and hundreds of designer brands, according to a news release.
As the CEO, Hyman built Rent the Runway from an idea into a profitable, high-growth company valued at nearly $1 billion.
“She helped build Rent the Runway from scratch with a female classmate from business school and is now prepping for an initial public stock offering just eight years later,” Ashley also said. “Her message of strong female leadership and business foresight will be inspiring to our membership and Impact event guests.”
Hyman has been honored with recognitions such as Forbes’ 12 Most Disruptive Names in Business and Fortune’s Most Powerful Female Entrepreneurs.
She is also a frequent guest on television, serving as Rent the Runway’s spokesperson on “The Today Show,” “Good Morning America,” “CBS This Morning” and Fox.
The event will take place Feb. 22 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Chattanooga Convention Center.
Individual tickets go on sale Dec. 1.
