AFC Urgent Care is offering free X-rays of Halloween candy for parents who want extra assurance it hasn’t been tampered with.

The clinics recently upgraded to digital X-ray machines, which make the process quick and easy, Rachel Davis with AFC said.

“We don’t have to do a lot of manual work; the turnaround time is minimal,” she said. “[It takes] five minutes … to make sure the candy is safe.”

AFC is offering this service at its Cleveland, Ooltewah, Gunbarrel and Hixson locations Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Davis said the effort isn’t meant to scare anyone. It’s more about offering peace of mind.

Although candy poisoning is generally a myth, there are occasions in which sharp objects are found in treats, according to fact-checking website Snopes.com.
