Asheville, North Carolina-based brewery Wicked Weed is expanding into Chattanooga this week, and The Flying Squirrel is offering the first taste of the beer.
“Their beers are nationally (possibly even globally) recognized as some of the best beers around, especially when it comes to sours,” The Flying Squirrel’s Wolfgang Schmitz said via email.
Wicked Weed’s Evan Crutchfield said this week is the official Chattanooga launch. In addition to The Flying Squirrel’s event, which is Wednesday, the beers will be available Thursday at The Bitter Alibi and Universal Joint. Heaven and Ale in Ooltewah will have the beers Friday.
“We will have beer throughout the city and region … from now on,” Crutchfield said via email.
Schmitz said most of the Wicked Weed beers are “on the edge of crazy.”
“Their sour game is a feat of strength that few other breweries can compete with,” he also said.
One of the company’s beers, Oblivion, is a sour red ale that’s aged with blackberries and dates in red wine barrels for eight to 10 months, he also said.
“You could throw a dart at their portfolio and hit something that’s going to be really delicious,” he said.
