UTC Provost Jerald Ainsworth announced he will be stepping down from his position at the university.
Ainsworth will officially leave his role June 30, 2018, and will retire from the university Jan. 2, 2019. Ainsworth has been the provost for five years. Before his current position, Ainsworth was the dean of the graduate school.
UTC Chancellor Steven Angle said in a prepared statement:
Under his leadership, [the Division of] Academic Affairs at UTC has instituted systems to track student learning outcomes and progress toward graduation. The hard work of Dr. Ainsworth and the dedicated faculty, staff and administrators in Academic Affairs has led to UTC being the No. 1 university in Tennessee for each of the last two years in the Complete College Tennessee metrics.
Ainsworth said it has been an honor to work for UTC.
“My hope is that my service has had a positive impact on student learning and success,” Ainsworth said in a prepared statement. “I wish to thank Chancellor Angle for the opportunity to serve the students, faculty, staff and the state of Tennessee in this capacity.”
UTC will begin looking for the next provost immediately through an effort led by Myers McRae.
