A new study ranked Collegedale among the safest cities in Tennessee.

According to the National Council for Home Safety and Security, the safest cities were reviewed using the most recent FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics, population data and internal research.

Collegedale was ranked third behind Spring Hill (No. 2) and Brentwood (No. 1) on the list.

The Collegedale ranking was the only top 10 listing for Hamilton County. Other cities in the top 10 include Franklin, Gallatin, Germantown, Mount Juliet and Hendersonville.

Soddy-Daisy was ranked 13, Red Bank was 21 and East Ridge was 41 on the list.

Chattanooga was 47 on the list of 53 cities.

From the report:

The cities were ranked based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) and property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) per 1,000 people. These variables were then weighted, with violent crimes assigned a value 1.5 times (due to their severity) that of property crimes.
