River City Co. will once again gather teams of volunteers this spring to help clean up areas of Chattanooga.

The annual Clean and Green returns April 21 from 8 a.m. to noon. Volunteers will focus on litter and beautification throughout Downtown Chattanooga and surrounding neighborhoods.

Volunteer groups, businesses, civic groups, families and individuals are all welcome to participate.

Registration is encouraged.  Check-in and assignment of projects will be at 850 Market St. on the day of the event.

All supplies will be provided, including trash bags and gloves. Volunteers will also be given breakfast and T-shirts.

A list of special projects has been submitted. Projects will be chosen ahead of the event and teams will be dispatched to work on them.

Last year, teams helped clean up the playground at Little Mis Magg Early Learning Center, worked on two community murals, stained the stage at Bessie Smith Cultural Center, cleaned up the river near Chickamauga Dam and more.

A list of previous special projects is archived on the event website.

Clean and Green is sponsored by Volkswagen Chattanooga, UTC and SERVEPRO of Chattanooga, Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprise and the City of Chattanooga.

Since 2011, the event has enlisted 4,600 volunteers, collected over 7,100 bags of trash, removed graffiti from 115 buildings, and cleaned 55 city blocks and multiple neighborhoods.
