Officials with Escape Experience Chattanooga and the Chattanooga Choo-Choo have partnered on a new escape room scenario.

The Runaway Train Transport will open in May at the Chattanooga Choo-Choo.

Guests will be “trapped inside an armored transport rail car … riding on a runaway train bound for destruction.” A team of up to 8 people will test their wits by working together, finding clues and solving puzzles.

Using an actual stationary train car at the Chattanooga Choo-Choo, the ride uses video footage provided by Tennessee Valley Railroad to give guests the illusion of movement throughout the experience.

According to Michael Rowland, owner of Escape Experience Chattanooga, this experience is the company’s most immersive yet.

“I wanted to capture the nostalgia of boarding a train at The Chattanooga Choo-Choo, with the added excitement of an escape room game,” he said.

From the release:

Passengers once boarded trains daily from Terminal Station at the Chattanooga Choo Choo.  Like the airport travel of our time, traveling from Chattanooga to other cities around the country by rail was the standard.  Not so today.

In 1970, Terminal Station closed its 14 tracks and seven boarding platforms. Other than the occasional special event, trains haven’t left from this station since then, and most recently even the rails leading into the station have been cut off by development.

Now, almost 50 years later, new life is being breathed into the rails at the Choo Choo.  A new daily train schedule will be back on the books in May, and once again travelers will be able to buy a ticket, stand and wait on the platform at Terminal Station, board a train, and take a ride on the rail.  But this is not your run-of-the-mill train ride. In fact, it’s a  “run-away” train ride [simulation].

During the experience, participants will be able to look out the windows and see the landscape rushing by on both sides. The team’s objective is to make it to the back of the train and “jump off” in time, avoiding destruction.

Rowland is offering locals a chance to win a test ride before the official debut. 15 people will win a chance by sharing the experience on social media. More information on the contest is available here.

Escape Experience Chattanooga offers 4 additional escape room games at their 1800 Rossville Ave. headquarters. In addition to C-Block Prison Break and The Inheritance Mystery Room, the most recent additions offer total immersion in a given scenario.

The Bunker is set in the year 2009, and participants are among the first to arrive at a military post inside the Ochs-Bragg Missile Complex in Chattanooga. A “sudden event” triggers total lockdown and, as fate would have it, the start of a missile launch countdown. Your task is to figure out how to stop the launch.

Vaccine: Search for the Cure finds players amidst a pandemic outbreak in the year 2035. Using teamwork and savvy, your group of scruffy survivors wanders, searching for food and evidence of other human activity. Fearing that you are alone, your group radio picks up a strange signal that has the potential to change everything. Is it salvation? Or is it something else?

The complete schedule is available here.
