The Salvation Army announced today that food pantry donations are desperately needed.

The pantry, located at the Salvation Army’s social services office at 2140 E. 28th St., does not, as of this writing, have enough food to put together even one complete food box for a family.

“We have odds and ends, a can here or there, but not enough to put together three full meals in a food box,” Sandy Leavell, director of social services for the Salvation Army, said in a prepared statement. “We are desperately needing the community to donate food.”

The organization accepts nonperishable food items such as peanut butter, canned meats, beans, chili, canned vegetables and soups, etc. Click here to see a full list of items.

Items can be brought to the social services office listed above or to the Salvation Army offices at 822 McCallie Ave. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Monetary donations can be made here or by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY.

If your business, school or church would like to host a donation drive, call 423-756-1023.
