On Friday, Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger endorsed Republican gubernatorial candidate Randy Boyd.

Coppinger said:

I am pleased … to lend my full support and to officially endorse Randy Boyd in his campaign to be Tennessee’s next governor. I worked closely with Randy when he served as our state commissioner of economic and community development, and he has been an incredible partner to Hamilton County, helping us grow thousands of new jobs and millions in new investment to keep our local economy growing.

Coppinger said that Boyd has demonstrated strong leadership as the architect of the Drive to 55 and Tennessee Promise scholarship programs.


“No one I know works harder or cares more about getting the job done for the people of Tennessee,” he also said.

Former Nashville Mayor Karl Dean, a Democrat, is also running for the office.

Five other Republicans—Mae BeaversBeth HarwellKay WhiteDiane Black and Bill Lee—are also in the 2018 race for governor.
