According to a release from The Chattery, the open mic storytelling event is “an opportunity for friends, colleagues and strangers to unite.”

The concept has been well-received in larger cities, with events such as The Moth and Brutally Honest Storytelling leading the way.

“Sometimes, it’s best to learn by doing,” Jennifer Holder, operations headmaster at The Chattery, said. “This event allows participants the opportunity to practice their storytelling and public speaking skills in real time.”

Elisa Negroni, a certified Speaking Circle facilitator, will be the master of ceremonies for the event.

Anybody can sign up to participate. The rules for stories are that they must be true, “from the heart” and five minutes or less in length.

The theme for the inaugural event is “firsts.” Storytellers should tell tales based on first loves, first time doing an activity or anything else they can think of involving the theme.

Improv Chattanooga is located at 1800 Rossville Ave. Suite 106. Attendees can bring their own beverages. Concessions will be available for purchase.
