Each Friday, we’ll feature a photo from Picnooga highlighting Chattanooga history.

Umbrella Rock drew thousands of visitors annually to Lookout Mountain to seize an opportunity to have a photo made on what appears to be a treacherous, floating rock overlooking a dramatic ledge.

Although Umbrella Rock is not accessible for potential photographers now—a gate blocks entry—guests can still visit the location atop Lookout Mountain via the Point Park Trailhead.
