“Bluegrass Underground” officials announced plans to move the concert series to a new home closer to Chattanooga beginning with the season eight taping.

“Bluegrass Underground” will open at The Caverns, a new venue at the foot of Monteagle Mountain, March 24 with performances by Billy Strings and Sweet Lizzy Project.

The season eight taping schedule will span several months this spring and include performances by Brandi Carlile, Kathy Mattea, Tim O’Brien and Lettuce, Turnpike Troubadours, Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper, and Mary Gauthier.

Other shows are billed as “The Caverns Presents” and will include Keller Williams, Scott Miller, Bobby Bare and Here Come the Mummies.

Previously, “Bluegrass Underground” was taped over a single weekend at the Volcano Room, 333 feet underground in McMinnville’s Cumberland Caverns. The first seven seasons earned 13 Emmy Awards, and the venue—literally a cave—was heralded as one of the most unique concert venues in the world.

The new venue—located in Pelham, Tennessee—will become the permanent home of “Bluegrass Underground” in Grundy County. And although guests will still enjoy the cave experience, officials can also provide more amenities than the previous location would allow.

“Every aspect of the patron experience has been improved and enhanced,” Joe Lurgio, general manager and associate producer with The Caverns, said. “[We’ll provide] a streamlined ticketing process, closer parking, nicer bathrooms, more comfortable seating, better sightlines and more.”

The new venue will also allow guests to enjoy beer and upgraded food and beverage concessions.

Lurgio said the Pelham venue is “even grander … and ‘cavier'” than the Cumberland Caverns location. The Caverns will expand the capacity for shows from about 600 to at least 1,000.

“We’re really happy to announce the grand opening of The Caverns, the forever home of ‘Bluegrass Underground’ and many other special musical moments that will bring folks together in a spectacular space like no other the world over … or under,” said Todd Mayo, Caverns owner and creator of “Bluegrass Underground.”
