Brainerd High School has announced Christopher James as its new principal.

James replaced former principal Uras Agee, who recently moved to Washington Alternative School to serve as its exceptional education coordinator.

James will take a step up from his current position as an assistant principal at Fulton High School in Knox County. James also has served as an administrator at West High School in Knoxville, Tennessee.

He was the candidate that emerged from an in-depth search for the ideal new leader by the community panel. The panel was comprised of parents, students, UTC staff, community advocates, nonprofit leaders, a university representative, and a school board member.

“To be the fastest improving school district in Tennessee, Hamilton County Schools must have dynamic leaders in our schools,” Superintendent Dr. Bryan Johnson said in a prepared statement. “Christopher James is one of those innovative leaders who can motivate teachers and students to be pacesetters in academic improvement at Brainerd High.”

James will begin his tenure as principal of Brainerd High School starting March 5.
