Local leader and resident Michael Henry has picked up qualifying petition papers for the candidacy of Hamilton County School Board in District 6.

Here’s the news release about his campaign.

Michael Henry, a graduate of UTK and UTC first earned his Bachelor of Arts before moving to Chattanooga where he completed his Master of Business Administration with Graduate Certificates in Business Analytics and Strategic Human Resource Leadership at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Henry has taught at East Lake Academy of Fine Arts, Brainerd High School, and Howard School of Academics and Technology in Algebra, Algebra II, and Geometry classrooms while working on his master’s degree.

On Sundays, Michael attends Northminster Presbyterian Church where he sings in the choir.

“Before I relocated to Hamilton County, my family considered Chattanooga our home away from home; this is where we would spend time together. I’ve always called Chattanooga home.

Since relocating, my time spent working in Hamilton County schools and working as a consultant with entrepreneurs and small businesses has uncovered issues, helping me conceptualize community solutions.

As a school board member, I will focus on creating avenues for our students to embrace the unique opportunities our community has to offer. I will work with my board members and central office to develop programs encouraging students to find their passion and place in the future workforce.

Students capitalize on these opportunities when they are in good health and mind. Later start times and nutritional food options in our schools are two ways I want to approach this issue by starting a case study. When the most reliable meal that a certain percentage of our students eat comes from the school system, we must make sure students get the fuel they need and allow them to learn and grow.

We cannot serve the needs of our community if we don’t have accessible channels of communication for all people. In my own business, I say that if you want to serve all people then you must be able to speak to and hear from all people. Accessibility leads to trust, which leads to support.

I will use conversational data measurements, that I use every day in my business, to share the successes of our schools in District 6 and communicate with community business leaders. I will be the sounding-board for our parents, teachers, and community, ” stated Michael Henry.
