Hamilton County school officials have two calendar options for the 2019-2020 year and are seeking feedback about which to choose.
Officials are asking parents and others to take a survey on the issue, which is available through May 14 at 5 p.m.
The Hamilton County Board of Education will review the results of the survey and plan to approve a school calendar for the 2019-2020 school year at the regular meeting scheduled for May 17.
Both calendars begin teacher in-service on Aug. 1, 2019, which is a Thursday.
And with both options, the first day of school will start on Aug. 7, 2019—a Wednesday.
Christmas break is the same on both calendars, beginning Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019, and students returning to school on Jan. 6, 2020, which is a Monday.
Both calendars end school on Thursday, May 21, 2020.
Fall break, Thanksgiving break, and spring break are where there are differences in the calendars, according to a news release.
Option No. 1
Calendar option No. 1 has a three-day fall break on Oct. 10, 11 and 14—Thursday, Friday and Monday, respectively.
The Thanksgiving break is a full week from Monday, Nov. 18, to Friday, Nov. 22, 2019.
Spring break is the third week in March from Monday, March 16, to Friday, March 20, 2020.
Spring break would coincide with the end of the third quarter and the UTC spring break.
Option No. 2
With this option, fall break would last a full week during the second week of October, from the 7th to 11th.
The Thanksgiving break will be a three-day break from Wednesday, Nov. 20, to Friday, Nov. 22, 2019.
Spring break would be between Friday, April 3, and Friday, April 10, 2020.
This spring break positioning will coincide with the Easter holiday.
