On July 16, 2015, authorities were alerted that a gunman had opened fire at two locations in Chattanooga. The assailant committed a drive-by shooting at a recruiting center on Lee Highway and, later, continued firing at a U.S. Navy Reserve center.
The casualties were four U.S. Marines who died at the scene and one U.S. Navy sailor who died at a hospital two days later: Marine Corps Sgt. Carson A. Holmquist, Navy Logistics Specialist 2nd Class Randall Smith, Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. Thomas J. Sullivan, Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Squire K. “Skip” Wells and Marine Corps Staff Sgt. David A. Wyatt.
The ride will seek to “remember the five brave American heroes and to honor the sacrifice they made to ensure the safety of all of us, not only here in Chattanooga, but across America.”
