Democratic candidate for Register of Deeds Vickie Schroyer has worked for the office for 35 years and can’t imagine doing anything else.

The 56-year-old mother of two and grandmother of three graduated from Rossville High School before receiving an associate of arts degree in business administration.

She’s a Christian of the Baptist faith.

She’s on the ballot with Republican Marc Gravitt.

Early voting for the Aug. 2 primaries is between July 13 and July 28.

Identify an area where existing functions in the office you’re seeking work well and one area that could use improvement. Explain.

The office is running smoothly. An area of improvement would be language. I want to employ someone who speaks more than one language or ask an employee to learn another language. The population of Hamilton County is diverse and we need to be able to communicate effectively.

What do you think of the office’s current use of technology and are there areas where more technology should be implemented? Why or why not?

What do you want the public to know about your background or personal life if anything?

Although I have not held an elected office, I have worked in the Register of Deeds Office for more than 35 years; currently serving as a deputy register. I ask you to not only vote for me but hire me to work for you.

Why should residents vote for you?

I have over 35 years of knowledge and experience working in the Register of Deeds Office.

I know the documents and the recording requirements. I am ready to go to work on day one.

I know the job and I love working in the Register of Deeds Office. I can’t imagine doing anything else. It is much more than an administrative position. I have worked under three registers. They all worked with customers on a daily basis. I intend to do the same.

What is your personal motivation for running for this office and wanting to lead?

I want to lead because my current register is retiring. I know every aspect of the office.

We are responsible for maintaining the public records for all real estate transactions in Hamilton County.

We record deeds, deeds of trust, releases, liens and other documents permitted by law.

As you can see, this is a very important office.
